[ARCHIVED] Lt. Governor speaks at Wiregrass Economic Development meeting

HARTFORD, Ala. (WTVY) -- The Wiregrass Economic Development Corporation hosted its 26th annual investors’ luncheon.

"You’re working behind the scenes to accomplish a goal and so it’s nice to be able to get out and inform people of kind of whats going on in the state and our region, let them be apart of it and really understand," Jonathan Tullos, executive director Wiregrass Economic Development Corporation said.

The corporation is a regional non-profit that fosters and encourages responsible economic development activities for the citizens of coffee and Geneva County.

Every year they hope to increase the tax base and overall improve the sustainability and quality of life of the people they serve.

Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, Will Ainsworth was in attendance, discussing what he observed in his trip to the Wiregrass.

"I think it’s huge when you look a GTech you have multiple K-12 schools in 3 different community colleges working together, I can tell you that doesn’t happen anywhere else in the state. So that is a model for the rest of the state. It’s really neat to see these kids getting engaged and finding a passion and actually getting trained for a 21st-century job," Ainsworth said.

The Wiregrass Economic Development Corporation hopes to work with other surrounding counties to continue to move jobs to the Wiregrass.
