The City of Enterprise’s Boll Weevil statues will be featured this Sunday on a statewide television program.
Simply Southern TV filmed the segment in October, which will not only focus on the history of the boll weevil, but also the appreciation for the bug that now decorates the city.
“We had an ‘unbollweevilble’ time showing the crew the weevils when they came to Enterprise,” Tourism and Community Relations Director Tammy Doerer said. “This was another opportunity to showcase not only Weevil Way, but all the city has to offer. We hope this story encourages people to visit Enterprise.”
Hosts Kevin Worthington and Melissa Bowman from Simply Southern TV spent a day in Enterprise learning the history of the boll weevil and the impact it had on the community. They also visited several of the boll weevil statues along Weevil Way. Eddie Byrd, Director of Marketing and Community Outreach of Murphy Family restaurants, who had the inspiration for one of the most publicized Weevils, Ronald McWeevil, as well as Jenny Hendrix, Owner of Replica Plastics, who is the creative director that takes Weevils from inspiration to installation, also joined the crew on their tour.
Simply Southern TV explores Alabama and prides itself on showcasing stories that focus on farming, gardening, forestry, rural living and youth in agriculture. The Enterprise feature will air this Sunday, Jan. 8 at 10:30 a.m. on WTVY.
