An experienced engineer who already has insight into the operation and goals of the City of Enterprise took office March 16 as the new Director of Engineering and Public Works.
Mott was sworn in by Mayor William E. Cooper, whose recommendation of Mott for the position was unanimously approved by the City Council.
Formerly vice president and client service leader at Barge Design Solutions of Dothan, Mott had consulted for the City of Enterprise and the Wiregrass Economic Development Cooperation, and consequently had worked with local leaders on various design and engineering projects through the years. The most recent design project was the new terminal building which recently opened at the Municipal Airport.
"I look forward to working with Barry Mott as our new Director of Public Works. I believe Mayor Cooper made a great recommendation and I was pleased the council supported him as well,” City Administrator Jonathan Tullos said.
Councilman Turner Townsend was quoted as saying he has always enjoyed working with Mott.
“He is very professional, a good communicator and brought a lot to the table,” Townsend said. “He already has those relationships—he knows our city, knows the system, knows the people—so the learning curve will not be near as steep as if we went with someone outside of our relationships.”
Mott has more than 25 years’ experience in planning, design, and funding in a number of project categories, including roads, bridges, airports, 
commercial development, industrial sites, water and wastewater utilities, sitework, funding, grant writing and administration, and client relations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Auburn University.
Cooper said the city chose Mott from among a highly qualified field of candidates.
“I am extremely pleased to having Barry on board the City of Enterprise team. His 20 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering gives him a level of expertise that I think will be greatly beneficial to our city. With his enthusiastic personality and proactive approach, I think he is going to be a great addition.”
