Barry Mott has been named the new city engineer and director of public works for the city of Enterprise.

At the Enterprise City Council meeting March 16, Mott was unanimously named to the newly created post.

“I am extremely pleased to having Barry on board the city of Enterprise team,” said Enterprise Mayor William “Bill” Cooper. “His 20 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering gives him a level of expertise that I think will be greatly beneficial to our city. With his enthusiastic personality and proactive approach, I think he is going to be a great addition.”

City Administrator Jonathan Tullos agreed. “I look forward to working with Barry Mott as our new Director of Public Works,” he said. “I believe Mayor Cooper made a great recommendation and I was pleased the council supported him as well."

Mott has served as vice president and client service leader for Barge Design Solutions, which is listed among the top 200engineering and design firms in the country.

He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi and has over 25 years of experience in engineering and public works with strong leadership, project management, technical sales, marketing and engineering expertise on an array of civil, site, subdivision, water, wastewater, air, aviation, roads and municipal improvements.

Mott has worked on projects that include economic development, water tanks, water wells, wastewater plants, land application processes, permitting, water mains, water booster stations, sewer collections, sewer lift stations, airports, land development, road resurfacing, storm water and hydraulic modeling.

He has both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in civil engineering from Auburn University.

The city of Enterprise restructured the existing organizational chart after the current mayor and city councilmen took office in November 2020. With five department head slots unfilled at the time, the topic was discussed at the first of two strategic planning sessions held by the Enterprise City Council. Department head positions being filled on an interim status were theclerk/treasurer, public works, engineering and police chief. The vacant communication director position was not filled by aninterim but those duties have been disseminated between other employees.

At the strategic planning work session held Nov. 19, 2020 the council talked about each of the current vacancies and thecurrent organizational chart structure. “With five major vacancies, we have a good opportunity now to look at the existingorganizational chart and see where are we today, where we want to be and to determine a path from here to there. Is there ahappy medium? That’s why we scheduled this meeting,” said City Council President Turner Townsend at that time.

The restructure plan included creation of a city administrator position. The plan also changed the title and duties of the publicworks director to that of city engineer and director of public works. Under the restructure the existing director of engineeringservices and public works positions were eliminated. “The assistant directors’ positions would remain with perhaps enhancedresponsibilities added to their job descriptions,” according to the proposal.

Also under the restructure, the officers of the city are now the city administrator, the chief financial officer, the clerk, thepolice and fire chiefs, the city engineer and public works director, the tourism and Main Street director and the parks andrecreation director.

The next meeting of the Enterprise City Council is Tuesday, April 6, at the Enterprise City Hall. A work session begins at 5p.m. A voting meeting begins at 6 p.m. Both meetings are open to the public.
