Mayor Proclaims April as ‘Civitan Awareness Month’

April 11,2024

Mayor William E. Cooper Thursday proclaimed April 2024 as ‘Civitan Awareness Month’ in the City of Enterprise.

“Our local Civitans are committed to helping others in our community, as seen through their various service projects,” Mayor William E. Cooper said. “From creating holiday gift bags for senior citizens, to donating toys and gifts to the Sugar Plum Shop at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and supporting the Boys Scouts of Troop 126 at Vivian B. Adams School, our Civitans are committed to raising awareness for intellectual and developmental disabilities."

With more than 30,000 members worldwide, the volunteer service organization was founded in Birmingham in 1917. Civitans adopted a special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities in the 1950s.

The Enterprise Civitans meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Enterprise Country Club.
