Main Street Enterprise honors volunteers during inaugural award program

Main Street Enterprise Monday evening honored volunteers who together contributed more than 3,000 hours of service to the downtown district in 2023.

The ceremony, which was an Organization Committee Project, recognized the men and women who play a crucial role in supporting the local community. 

“As Main Street Enterprise continues to flourish in our efforts to revitalize downtown Enterprise, AL, it is vital to recognize the many volunteers who make it possible to accomplish our goals. Main Street Enterprise Board Chair Shelia Harris told the crowd including volunteers, Enterprise City Council members, Mayor William E. Cooper and other city leaders. “It’s important to acknowledge all our volunteers, no matter the task, for assisting with events, fundraisers, and more.”

The following awards were presented:

  • Organization Award: Shana Demby
  • Design Award: Jennie Chancey
  • Economic Vitality Award: Shelia Harris
  • Promotion Award: Kayla Tice
  • Young Main Street Award: Rachel Lesh
  • Impact Award: Jane Wardrobe
  • Leadership Award: Adam McCollister
  • Chairman’s Award for Exceptional Service: Katie Sawyer

“You all are the heart of our community,” Mayor William E. Cooper told the volunteers, who gather at Enterprise First Methodist Church. “You all are the ones who run and own the businesses along Main Street. You are the ones organizing and executing events downtown. You are making a difference in our community. You are what makes Enterprise, Enterprise.”

Shana Demby, Vice President of Main Street Enterprise, agreed.

The award ceremony is important because it celebrates the selflessness of individuals and the impact those individuals can have on the community. The organization committee chose to pursue this event to show gratitude, honor those who volunteer, and inspire others to do the same for our community. It is also important to understand the award ceremony acknowledges our volunteers who play a crucial role in supporting our community.”

Each winner was presented with an award featuring the Main Street Enterprise logo symbol, custom made by Isom Laser & Lens.

The Main Street Alabama Awards of Excellence were also on display for the ceremony.  Main Street Enterprise was awarded “Excellence in Volunteer Development”, “Excellence in Marketing” and “Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation” at the annual ceremony in August. Main Street Enterprise was also recognized for hitting the $3 million milestone for investment into the district since the Main Street Enterprise program began at the end of 2019.
