‘Mardi Gras on Main’ fundraiser for downtown beautification efforts

December 29,2023

Let the good times roll! The City of Enterprise’s Main Street Program is hosting the inaugural ‘Mardi Gras on Main’ on Friday, Jan. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. to raise money for various projects in the heart of the city. Mardi Gras on Main will include Cajun food, live music, elegant face painting, contests and other Mardi Gras themed activities.

The King and Queen of Mardi Gras will be announced following fundraising efforts that started in mid-October.  10 men and 10 women were chosen by the Main Street Enterprise Organization Committee and each participant made a $50 donation to Main Street Enterprise.  The public can vote for their choice of King and/or Queen through January 25. Each dollar donated equates to one vote.

Mariah Montgomery, Executive Director of Main Street Enterprise, said enough money has already been raised for some additional improvements to “The Nook,” a community space located at 123 S. Main Street.  Funds were used to purchase new wall lights and sconces and to install the necessary electrical hook ups to allow for musicians to use the space for community performances.

“Having electricity in The Nook means we can showcase more musicians and host live events for the community to come out and enjoy,” Main Street Enterprise Organization Chair Katie Sawyer said.  “We are grateful for every penny donated.”

The Young Main Street Committee has been tasked to begin scheduling musicians to perform in the renovated space which also includes picnic tables, benches and a custom-built stage.

“The impressive transformation of the space in just a matter of months is a testament to how focused, driven and hard-working the Main Street Enterprise volunteers are,” Montgomery said. “This project took much more than money; it also took physical labor of volunteers donating their time to stain, paint, plant, clean and more.’

The Nook will be maintained by Enterprise Parks and Recreation and Main Street Enterprise will slowly continue improvements over time to include adding flood lights, umbrellas and more. Montgomery said fundraising will continue and that the Main Street Design Committee will propose the next project to Enterprise City Council for approval.
